The first thanks of any qualitative researcher must go to informants.
With every interview I am more grateful to the busy people who take the
time to share their knowledge and perspective, and exercise their intelligence,
just so that academic research may be better. I am very lucky to have
met so many serious people in politics, society, and public service who were
willing to be forthcoming and responsive without trying to control or distort
my work.
At Northwestern, Charles Ragin was gracious and endlessly helpful in
the years he worked with me. Kathleen Thelen’s advice and support gave
form to the work while Edward Gibson’s advice and comments were constantly
