Summary :
Alvin dreams of adventure, but he never gets to go anywhere. His mom is just too protective. When Alvin can't take his mother's watchful eye anymore, he runs away to follow in the frozen footsteps of his hero, arctic explorer Matthew Henson. Eager to prove that he can take care of himself, Alvin leaves his Washington, DC, home, heading north by train-in January. Along the way, Alvin meets new people and sees new places. his gripping journey into arctic Canada teaches him many lessons. He learns about a new culture, he learns how to navigate dangerous terrain full of polar bears and wolves, and, most importantly he learns about himself.
