Summary :The four previous editions of this book were well received by readers and we are grateful for their positive comments. Reading through the prefaces of the four previous editions, much of what was said there still holds. However, recent years have seen important and steady advances in nearly all aspects of neurology. Physicians responsible for the care of patients with neurologic disease confidently manage common and unfamiliar conditions assisted by a systematic and organized adherence to an intelligent use of algorithmic clinicoanatomic matrixes.
This new edition of Localization in Clinical Neurology is again written for “frontline†clinicians who are daily confronted with the “Where is it?†of neurologic disorders. The chapters have been updated and multiple new charts have been added to help with the differential diagnosis of a variety of neurologic findings and disorders. We again hope this edition will help the clinician to diagnose patients with greater accuracy and with the least cost from unnecessary testing.
We would like to dedicate the 5th edition of Localization to the memory of one of the people who inspired this book, Dr. Frank A. Rubino, a superb neurologist who taught us to value localization in clinical practice.
We would like to thank our colleagues at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Scottsdale, and Rochester; at the University of Navarra; at Loyola University Chicago, and at Indiana University. Our gratitude goes in particular to the following individuals: Drs. Neil R. Miller, Andrew G. Lee, Jonathan D. Trobe, James J. Corbett, Rohit Bakshi, MarÃa A. Pastor, John Mazziotta, Mark L. Dyken, William E. De Myer, and James F. Toole. We especially thank Frances DeStefano and Scott Scheidt of Lippincott Williams & Wilkins for their encouragement, editorial efforts, and professionalism. As always, the constant support and encouragement of family and friends are appreciated
