Summary :State Medicaid programs nationally have beenintroducing managed
care into their Medicaid programs. In some states Medicaid managed
care programs include dental as part of their managed care plans while
in others, dental is a separate fee-for-service program operated by the
state Medicaid program. Access to and satisfaction with dental services
are particularly important issues for Medicaid enrollees because of the
possible additional barriers they face in obtaining dental care. This
study evaluated access to and satisfaction of Medicaid enrollees in three
different types of dental plans in Missouri: traditional fee-for-service
(FFS), Medicaid HMOs, and a sole-source contracting in the mid-Missouri
(mid-MO) region. A sample of 3,000 Medicaid enrollees were
selected from a list of all Medicaid enrollees, 1,000 from each dental
program.
