At the award event entitled "The Muslims 500: The Worlds 500 Most Influential Muslims 2022" organized by The Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Center (MABDA) has published the 500 most influential Muslim figures in the world in 2022 in Jordan. MABDA is an independent research institute affiliated with the Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought. The Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought is an international non-governmental and independent Islamic institution headquartered in Amman, the capital of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The event aims to ascertain the influence of some Muslim figures who are in an organization or community who have the power (cultural, ideological, financial, political) to make a change impact on the Muslim world.
Of the 500 Muslim leaders, there are three Muhammadiyah cadres who are included in the list compiled by this independent-based research institution and are in different categories. The three figures, including Ahmad Syafii Maarif, were listed in the Scholary clump, Din Syamsuddin was in the Honorable Mention category, and Haedar Nasir was selected in the Administration of Religious Affairs category.
Prof. Dr. H. Ahmad Syafii Maarif
Prof. Dr. H. Ahmad Syafii Maarif or familiarly called Buya Syafii is a scholar and one of the most famous scholars in Indonesia. He was the former Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Central Executive in the period 1998-2005. This Muhammadiyah figure who was born in Minangkabau on May 31, 1935 is actively involved in interfaith and peace movements both at home and abroad, especially through his Maarif Institute of Culture and Humanity. In 2008 he was awarded the prestigious Magsaysay Award for guiding Muslims to embrace tolerance and pluralism. Prof. Din Syamsuddin served as chairman (2005-2015) of the largest modernist Islamic organization in Indonesia, the Muhammadiyah. He also served as chairman of the Indonesian Council of Ulema and is currently acting as chairman of its Advisory Council. He is a member of Group of Strategic Vision Russia – Islamic World, Chairman of the World Peace Forum and President of the Inter Religious Council-Indonesia. He was recently re-elected for another five year term as President of the Asian Conference of Religions for Peace (ACRP). Syamsuddin is still very active in interfaith and intercultural dialogue and was appointed the Special Envoy for Religious Harmony by President Widodo.Dr. KH Haedar Nashir
KH Haedar Nashir was elected as the General Chair of the Muhammadiyah Movement in 2015. Reporting from Suara Muhammadiyah, a man born in Bandung, February 28, 1958, joined Muhammadiyah since 1983 and at that time was trusted as Chairman I of the Central Executive Board of the Muhammadiyah Student Association. Then in 1985-1990 Haedar Nashir occupied the position of Deputy Cadre of PP Pemuda Muhammadiyah to become Chairman of the Cadre Education Agency (BPK) and Development of Muhammadiyah Youth. In addition, he is also active in the field of writing such as writing scientific papers in the form of books and articles published in various mass media, especially Suara Muhammadiyah. In fact, he also served as Editor-in-Chief of Sinar Muhammadiyah magazine.
