Now we have entered the end of 2021 which is a tough year for all mankind in the world due to the current Covid-19 pandemic and a dissertation with various events happening to society today. This is certainly a concern for all mankind, especially for Muslims to reflect on themselves and pray at the momentum of the turn of the year. As Muslims we need to reflect on ourselves because it could be that all trials or events that are happening right now are the result of our sins as humans, as in QS Asy Shuraa verse 30:
"And whatever calamity befalls you, it is due to the deeds of your own hands, and Allah forgives most (of your faults)."
Therefore we need to reflect on this by doing self-reflection. Muhasabah comes from Arabic which means self-introspection. This needs to be done to evaluate ourselves towards our relationship with Allah (habluminallah) and our relationship with fellow humans (habluminannas) and human relationships with ourselves (habluminannafsi). From there we can find out the comparison between what good and bad deeds we have done so far, both religiously and in other social aspects.
Allah SWT also says about the nature of muhasabah in QS Al-Hasyr: 18 which reads: "O you who believe, fear Allah and let everyone pay attention to what he has done for tomorrow (hereafter), and fear Allah, verily Allah is Knowing of what you do" (Surah Al-Hasyr (59) :18).
Therefore, the end of this year should be used as a momentum for self-introspection towards deeds, behavior, attitudes and hearts so that they can become a better person than the previous year. Rasulullah SAW said:
"Whoever's condition today is better than yesterday, then he is lucky and whoever's condition today is the same as yesterday he is deceived and whoever's condition today is worse than yesterday, means he is cursed" (HR. Baihaqi).
If next year we do more worship and goodness, then we are among the lucky ones. But if in the next year we make more mistakes and sins, then we are included in the group of people who are losers. Thus, it is better for us as Muslims to be able to increase obedience and pious deeds, so that these various disasters will disappear and various blessings will come.
