The ability to write scientific papers is an obligation for librarians as part of their sense of responsibility to participate in the development of information and science library science and technology in general. However, in the process of making scientific papers, it is necessary to have the ability to know the basis of research methods, be it quantitative, qualitative or mixed methods. Not a few librarians who find it difficult to use a research method, especially quantitative research methods.
Quantitative research methods require librarians to take data, determine variables and then measure them with numbers so that analysis can be carried out in accordance with applicable statistical procedures. This becomes a challenge for librarians who want to examine a population or sample which is then analyzed statistically. In addition to using quantitative research methods, librarians must also be able to use data processing software such as SPSS and Smart PLS. Therefore, in order to improve the competence of librarians in conducting quantitative research, the UMY Library in collaboration with the UAD Library and the UNISA Library held the "Learning Librarian #4" activity which was held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday, 26, 27, & 29 January 2022.
This activity was divided into three days with different speakers. Wednesday and Thursday were filled by resource persons, namely M. Zakiy Ishak, M.Sc who explained about the quantitative metopen procedure, SPSS and Smart PLS. Next on Saturday, the speaker, namely Misran, SIP, explained about Vosviewer and Publish or Perish. This activity was carried out offline in the Meeting Room, Lt. 1 Building D UMY Library and attended by approximately 25 participants consisting of UMY, UAD, and UNISA librarians. TThe purpose of this activity is librarians can improve their competence in conducting in-depth quantitative research using data processing software, so that they can produce scientific papers that are more qualified and valid.
