The Things that Fresh Graduates Should Avoid When Applying For Jobs
Author : Aidilla Qurotianti Date : 03 February 2022

Finding a job for a fresh graduate is challenging and competitive during this pandemic. Need accuracy in finding and applying for jobs. Therefore, you need to avoid things that make the job application process not run efficiently. Here are some things to avoid when looking for and applying for jobs:

  1. Does not identify the company you want to apply for
Before submitting a cover letter, you must identify/find out the company's profile, vision, mission and goals by checking the company's website and social media. You can also ask friends or relatives who currently work or have worked there, or work in the same sector. The purpose of checking the website and social media of the company you are going to is not only to identify, but also to find out the benefits that you will get by joining the company.

  2. Errors in Making Curriculum Vitae (CV)
Curriculum Vitae (CV) is crucial in applying for a job. The most common mistakes in making a CV are typing errors or typos, be it place names, work experience, or descriptions. Many typos on your CV can reduce your scoring points in the recruitment process.
Making a CV is also adjusted to the type of job to be applied for. There are 2 types of CV, namely ATS CV and Creative CV. ATS (Applicant Tracking System) is a system-based software that functions to filter job applications to match company requirements. The way ATS works is by scanning or reading content from CVs using algorithms and based on keywords. This ATS CV usually has a simple & minimalist design with a black and white background, uses standard font types, and does not require supporting photos.
This is different from a creative CV which is often used for companies that need jobs with creative skills. The format for making a creative CV is usually more colorful, the design is much more diverse and can be supported by attractive visuals. Even though it seems more creative, if there are too many designs with various fonts, chances are the creative CV will not be read by the ATS system.

  3. One CV Used For All Positions
Not all job positions applied for can use the same CV. Skills and experience as well as job requirements are certainly different. Therefore, it is important to adjust the CV that will be sent according to the needs of the position by making a special CV for each job position applied for. This is so that you can list your abilities that match the job vacancies needed. It would be better if the CV is continuously updated. Not only in its content, but also in the form of the CV format as a whole so that the CV looks fresh and interesting to read.

  4. Just Waiting For Results In One Place
Don't just wait for an interview call for the job, but also make sure to apply for jobs elsewhere. If you only wait for confirmation from 1 place, of course it will waste time and other opportunities.
