UMY Library Has Held Webinar "Bibliobattle Batch 1"

UMY Library held a webinar Bibliobattle Batch 1 on Tuesday (22/02/2022). Bibliobattle is a book review competition developed by the Graduate School of Informatics at Kyoto University in Japan. The game was booming in Japan around 2013. The person who presents the book in the bibliobattle is called the bibliobattler or book presenter. In this competition, each contestant conveys the contents of the book that is most interesting/impressive for them so that the audience also wants to know the full contents of the book in question. After that, the audience will vote for the book that the audience finds interesting. 

The contestants in the Bibliobattle Batch 1 event consisted of several lecturers from various study programs, including Frizki Yulianti Nusnisya, S.IP., M.Si (Lecturer of Communication Studies at UMY), Rosi Rosiah, S.Pd., M.Pd (Lecturer of Communication Studies at UMY). Japanese Language Education UMY), and Muhammad Zakiy Ishak, S.EI., M.Sc (Lecturer of Sharia Economics UMY). This activity took place online via Zoom and was attended by approximately 100 participants from the UMY academic community and the general public.

In the competition, each of them presented the contents of the book which was an impressive/memorable book for them. The first contestant was Frizki Yulianti Nusnisya, S.IP., M.Si who brought him a memorable children's book series. On this occasion, She conveyed the contents of his book entitled "Aku Anak Yang Berani : Bisa Melindungi Diri Sendiri" by Watiek Ideo. She explained that this book is a children's book series that discusses sexual education, the anatomy of boys and girls, to the story of bullying. This book also provides education to parents about how to deal with the situation of children who are experiencing problems like the ones above.

The competition continued with the second contestant, Rosi Rosiah, S.Pd., M.Pd., who presented a novel. She conveyed the contents of his novel entitled "Botchan" by Soseki Natsume. This Botchan novel tells the story of a boy named Botchan whose childhood was a stubborn and fighting child. But after growing up Botchan decided to take college by majoring in education until he finally became a teacher. The story begins with him who rebelled against the "system" in a village school. Botchan's nature is always frank and doesn't want to pretend often makes it difficult for him to interact with the people around him. He is faced with various realities that are not in accordance with his principles, such as the habit of the villager who likes to know about other people's affairs, the students at his school do not respect a teacher, school rules are very irrelevant and efficient, and corruption that occurs in the school. 

The last contestant was Muhammad Zakiy Ishak, S.EI., M.Sc., who presented the contents of his book entitled “Mein Kampf” by Adolf Hitler. He explained that the book contains about politics as well as the outpouring of Adolf Hitler's heart which he wrote while languishing for 13 months in prison in Landsberg. Hitler was thrown into prison for being involved in a failed coup against the German government known as the Beer Hall Putsch. The book, which Hitler says was heavily influenced by Madison Grant's The Passing of the Great Race, contains his views on the Nazi plan to dominate the world.

The last session was voting by the audience by choosing the title of the book that the audience thought was interesting. From the voting, it was found that the winner of the book of the audience's choice fell on the book entitled "I am a Daughter Who Dare: I Can Protect Myself" by Watiek Ideo, presented by Frizki Yulianti Nusnisya, S.IP., M.Si who is a Lecturer in Communication Studies at UMY. 

It is hoped that from the implementation of this bibliobattle activity, it can become an arena for knowledge sharing, increase literacy and interest in reading, become an arena for bringing users closer to books, and hone courage in public speaking skills for bibliobattlers.
