On March 17, 2022, Zotero officially released its app update, zotero 6. The official zotero website says that "We are pleased to announce the release of Zotero 6, the next major version of Zotero and the biggest improvement in Zotero history. Zotero 6 introduces a series of new features for changing the way you do research, including a whole new way of working with PDFs and notes."

The developer explains that there are many improvements and new features to make it easier for users to carry out the research process. This is certainly good news for users of the Zotero application. As you know, Zotero is an open source reference manager application. Zotero application is now used by more than 3 million users worldwide.

The following improvements and additional features were released in the Zotero 6 application:
1. Can open PDF files in the Zotero application
2. Mark the contents of a PDF file with image highlights, notes, and annotations
3. Can add annotations to Zotero notes with automatic quotes
4. Citing other items directly in notes using Zotero's familiar citation dialog
5. Can insert notes into Microsoft Word, LibreOffice, and Google Docs, and can create citations and bibliography automatically
6. Markdown Export
