UMY Library held a webinar Bibliobattle Batch 3 (Final Chapter) on Tuesday (12/04/2022). Bibliobattle is a book review competition developed by the Graduate School of Informatics at Kyoto University in Japan. The game was booming in Japan around 2013. The person who presents the book in the bibliobattle is called the bibliobattler or book presenter. In this competition, each contestant conveys the contents of the book that is most interesting/impressive for them so that the audience also wants to know the full contents of the book in question. After that, the audience will vote for the book that the audience finds interesting.
The contestants in the Bibliobattle Batch 3 (Final Chapter) event were UMY students who were active in BEM organizations from various faculties, including: Yunanto from BEM, Faculty of Agriculture, UMY, Muhammad Fatwa Nurudin from BEM, Faculty of Islamic Religion, UMY, and Muhammad Adam from BEM, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. UMY. This activity took place online via Zoom and was attended by approximately 100 participants from various backgrounds.
In the competition, each of them presented the contents of the book which was an impressive/memorable book for them. The first contestant was Yunanto (BEM Faculty of Agriculture UMY). Yunanto shared a story about a book written by Nurhady Sirimorok entitled A Closer Look at Villages: A Travel Note on One Language. This book is a record of the author's journey. The author describes that the stigma about rural communities is still considered backward or not keeping up with the times. Even the village youth are now more likely to look for work outside the village than to become farmers. In fact, the agricultural land has great potential and it will be even greater if the youth participate in the struggle of their parents as farmers and try to make innovations in the agricultural sector. This requires the government's role to be observant and agile and offer profitable solutions for farmers.
The competition continued with the second contestant, Muhammad Fatwa Nurudin (BEM, Faculty of Islamic Religion UMY). Fatwa shares stories about a book entitled Personal Great by Buya Hamka. This book explains how to become a great person by developing your potential using your mind and body. The best time to form a strong personality is when you are young. When you are young, one must start setting goals for the future because the process of getting to the goal cannot be achieved in an instant. Goals will make a person continue to pump himself better and work hard to achieve that goal. And no less important is faith and religion. If a person has a strong purpose and strong religiosity then he will be a great and immovable person.
The last contestant was Muhammad Adam (BEM Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, UMY). Adam shares about a book entitled Start With Why by Simon Sinek. The author wants to explain that inspiring leaders have the same way of thinking, acting, and communicating. They all start with the question “Why?”. The author also tells how great leaders inspire people to take action and how to become a leader. The conclusion that can be drawn is that a good leader is a leader who cares about the environment.
The last session is voting that will be done by the audience by choosing the title of the book that the audience thinks is interesting. From the voting, it was found that the winner of the audience's choice of book fell on a book entitled "Seeing the Village Closer: A Travel Note on One Language" by Nurhady Sirimorok, presented by Yunanto from BEM, Faculty of Agriculture, UMY.
It is hoped that the implementation of this bibliobattle activity can become an arena for knowledge sharing, increase literacy and interest in reading, and become an arena for bringing users closer to books for everyone, especially the UMY academic community.
