Cyberbullying has become a phenomenon that often occurs in the technological era, especially social media as it is today. Cyberbullying (cyberbullying) is an act of bullying/bullying using digital technology that occurs on social networks such as on social media, chat platforms, playing games platforms, and cellphones. Meanwhile, according to Think Before Text, cyberbullying is aggressive and purposeful behavior carried out by a group or individual, using electronic media, repeatedly from time to time, against someone who is considered not easy to fight against this action. Cyberbullying is repeated behavior intended to frighten, anger, or embarrass those who are targeted. This type of bullying is very often experienced by its users, most of whom are young people. As a result of these actions, quite a number of them experienced depression and even decided to end their own lives because they did not dare to tell a story.
A young man from Bangladesh named Sadat Rahman Shakib is moved to stop cyberbullying. Sadat was born on May 15, 2003 in Magura, Bangladesh. The application and the organization are called “Cyber ??Teens”. The story begins when a 15 year old girl commits suicide after experiencing cyberbullying. Thanks to his services, Sadat won the 2020 International Children's Peace Award.
The award was given by the Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai at Sadat's time in the Netherlands. Sadat was awarded for his involvement in establishing a social organization and its mobile application Cyber ??Teens to stop cyberbullying. KidsRights (the awarding organization) says the International Children's Peace Prize is an initiative of the international child rights organization, KidsRights. Out of an impressive 142 candidates from 42 countries, the KidsRights Committee of Experts selected Sadat Rahman from Bangladesh as the winner.
What is impressive about this application is the involvement of legal institutions/bodies such as cyber specialists, social workers to the police. Cyber ??Teens has been used by more than 1,800 teenagers in the local district. This application has also helped more than 300 victims of cyberbullying, including by reporting fake accounts and providing support for mental health issues. Apart from that, through this Cyber ??Teens organization, Sadat also gave seminars on internet safety in schools and colleges. He also created “Cyber ??Clubs” at every school in the local area. Through this club, young people will be given education about digital literacy knowledge.
The importance of digital literacy today is inseparable from the negative effects such as the case above. Digital literacy does not only focus on a person's ability to use technology and process information, but also forms understanding and a critical way of thinking so that the younger generation is not easily influenced by hoax information, provocative issues, and avoids digital-based fraud. That way, through digital literacy, we can create a social order with a creative mindset and critical outlook.
