As a manifestation of the implementation of the duties and functions of the National Library of Indonesia (Perpusnas) as the Fostering Institution for all types of libraries, especially university libraries, the National Library of Indonesia through the Center for School/Madrasah and Higher Education Library Development is holding the 2023 Best Practice Contest.

In this competition, the UMY Library succeeded in qualifying for the top 10 by presenting an innovative work entitled "Recovering the Community's Economy after the Covid-19 Pandemic through Community Service Based on the Digital Library for Society Mbaca Application". In this competition, the UMY best practice competition team consisted of five people, including Eko Kurniawan, M.A., Novy Diana Fauzie, SS., M.A., Arda Putri Winata., M.A., Hasyim Latif, SIP., and Muhammad Naufal Hidayatullah, S. IP.

Later all teams that qualify for the top 10 best practices will take part in the Final Assessment Stage of the 2023 Higher Education Library Best Practice Contest. The final assessment of the competition will be held at the Royal Kuningan Hotel from 12 to 15 September 2023. There are six components to be assessed in best practice competitions, namely Needs Assessment, Design of Innovation Work, Results of Innovation Work, Usefulness, Impact of Innovation, and Presentation of innovation work.

This best practice competition activity was held as a means to grow, accommodate and realize the creative and innovative ideas of all human resources and talents of university libraries in supporting the independent learning program - independent campuses in accordance with National Education Standards. Apart from that, this activity also aims to produce innovations that can be applied to other higher education libraries, in order to improve the quality of higher education libraries to support the Tri Dharma of Higher Education.
